Wonderful day trip to the tallest lighthouse of Nordic countries with hundreds of nesting eider ducks.

Eider duck safari to Bengtskär lighthouse 11.5.2019

The best opportunity to see sea birds in Finland!

Spring in the outer archipelago is a magical time. The little lighthouse island becomes home for hundreds of nesting eider ducks. The human presence on the island keeps predators away and makes a safe habitat for nesting birds. Our boat tour goes through the archipelago, to the smallest islets off the coast all the way to Bengtskär lighthouse.

We’ll see birds, occasionally seals, landscapes, nature and history. The spring weather is cool but it’s always warm on board.

Start from Helsinki at 7.30  touristbus stop, Address: Mannerheiminaukio 2, just in front of the Kiasma museum (buscompany is Launokorpi).

We drive to Kemiönsaari (Kimitoön in Swedish) and its southernmost place, Kasnäs, arrival time is appr. 10.30. Time for a cup of coffee etc by your own cost.

Wheather conditions:

Harsh weather and/or high waves can prevent landing on Bengtskär. This usually happens about two times per month during the summer. If the weather forecast predicts harsh weather, we will try to inform you the day before, but sometimes conditions can change quickly and there is a chance we will not be able to inform you in advance. In this case we will have another programme, which is Örö fortress island.

Clothing and equipment

We recommend comfortable shoes, which will make it easier to move on the uneven terrain. The cliffs can also be slippery. The weather can change quickly, so it’s good to have warm, wind resistant clothing. On sunny days, it’s good to bring sunscreen. You might want to bring a flashlight for exploring the bunker.
